Email Protection

This Service Description was last updated with effect from 4th of July 2024.

4.1. Overview

  1. Introduction

Email Protection is an inbound email solution that helps to protect Schools from the increasing number of email-based cyber threats, such as malware, spam, phishing and malicious and unwanted or harmful content delivered via email. More details about the solution can be found at https://www.n4l.co.nz/protect/safety-and-security-solutions/service-descriptions/email-protection/

  2. Eligibility

Email Protection is offered for free to all state and state-integrated Schools in New Zealand.

4.2. Email Protection solution

  1. Components

Email Protection can be integrated alongside Microsoft or Google email service and has two main components. The first aims to prevent potentially unwanted or harmful emails from reaching Schools, and the second is a tool that provides visibility of your School's emails that have been quarantined by N4L's Email Protection service, and enables the ability to use the MyN4L monitoring tool to review and determine whether to release quarantined emails when deemed appropriate. Email Protection will provide this protection independently of whether your School is accessing the MyN4L monitoring tool.

  2. Request Accessing to Email Protection

Requests for access to Email Protection can be placed via call or email to N4L’s Customer Support team, via interactions with N4L’s School Relationship Managers (and, in future, via an online expression of interest).

Once an access request has been granted, N4L will assist School staff in making the required changes on the school email tenancy configuration.

  3. Service Monitoring

Once you have been granted access to Email Protection, N4L will endeavor to monitor any changes to your settings that prevent the correct functionality and protection. If applicable we will endeavor to inform your School staff of any issues and assist with correcting the configuration of your settings.

Your School is solely responsible for monitoring, and assessing whether or not to release, quarantined emails (N4L will not monitor quarantined emails).

  4. Term

The Email Protection term begins at the point of sign-up and ends once a School either requests discontinued access to Email Protection or discontinues usage of the N4L-provided Internet Connection.

  5. Termination

Email Protection can be terminated by us or you, on at least one month’s written notice to the other.
