If you haven’t already signed up for one of the N4L sessions at ULearn, there is still time! And we’re holding a session about almost everything you could want to know about Pond as well as how to get the most out of N4L’s web filtering service.
If you’re not already registered for a session but you’ve got some free time, have a look at the session breakdown below and get involved.
Wednesday 8 October:
11.15am – 11.45pm: Fine tune your N4L connection: integrate your local directory (AD/LDAP) and customise your filtering. This session is being run by two teachers and ICT leads within their own school (Tim Harper from Mt Aspiring College and Trevor Storr from Waimate High School), talking about their own experience of successfully adapting their N4L web filtering service to suit the needs of their schools, getting the most out of their Managed Network connection. Tim is a member of our ICT Advisory team so has a wealth of knowledge about these things!
11.15am-12.30pm : Educators in Pond – Getting the most out of Pond as a teacher. I am running this session with Ian Allan, drawing on my personal experience as a secondary teacher as well as my understanding of Pond combined with the responses we had from conversations with some of the first 1500 teachers who are in Pond. It’s going to be session of ‘work-arounds’ aimed to show you how Pond can make planning and teaching easier.
1.45pm -3pm : Students in Pond – understanding what it means for New Zealand students and their teachers. It’s a busy day for our Pond guru Ian as he works with Carolyn Stuart to run a collaborative brainstorm with delegates about how Pond will grow and change when students are able to gain access. This is your opportunity to have a direct impact on a tool that could change how we access digital resources in the classroom.
Thursday 9 October:
11.15am – 12.30pm : A glimpse at digital leadership. Our resident Education Sector Lead, Carolyn Stuart, uses her knowledge and experience to guide educators through the rapidly changing landscape of digital leadership whilst interweaving what N4L can do to support schools and individuals through these changes. It will be a mix of researched theories and practical examples of what can be done in schools.
Friday 10 October:
11.15am – 12.30pm : Pond: Agile waterfalls and mistakes along the way. Nope, it’s not a geography lesson, it’s the Pond dev team talking tech about the realities of building a platform that has never been done before and being responsive to teachers’ needs. They will talk about the process from concept through to production. If you’re working with students who are keen developers or it’s just a personal interest, pop along and hear them share their experiences.
Register before Wednesday to ensure a place at one of these sessions and don’t forget, if you’re coming along to a Pond session on Wednesday, bring a device to play on and your Education Sector Logon with Pond entitlements. Not sure if you’ve got one? Call the MoE Service Desk ahead of time on 0800 422 599 (option 3) or email to check on [email protected].
Don’t forget, you can pop by the stand at any time for a chat. See you at ULearn 2014!
