20 July 1pm Chorus fibre technicians have identified additional fault locations on the cable on site at Te Kuiti and are conducting more testing
A new team of technicians is en-route to Te Kuiti to assist.Â
20 July 8.45am Chorus fibre technicians completed jointing overnight but found further damage approx. 6km away from the original site. Testing is underway to determine the exact location before repairs can continue. No ETR currently.
19 July 1.30pm A little more information on root cause from Chorus:
There is visible damage in the road “slump” where the ground has shifted towards Te Kuiti, we suspect this slump has damaged the cable. This is going to be a huge job, major earthworks required to get at the broken fibre and then stabilise the ground. Traffic management is in place and Chorus technicians are also available waiting for the civil team to arrive. No current ETA yet
18 July 4.40pm Chorus technicians arrived on site at 4.30pm at Te Kuiti to perform testing and find a solution.
18 July 4pm An outage is impacting schools in the Taumarunui area. The team are currently investigating the issue and we will provide further updates here.
