Katreena’s story

For our 10-year anniversary, we’ve asked several long-standing team members to reflect on their role at N4L, what drives them, and what they see for the future of technology in learning.

Meet Katreena Clavero, Customer Support Specialist Team Leader

Kumusta, I’m Kareena and I’m a Customer Support Specialist Team Leader and I’m 4 technology helping make a better future for ākonga.

I started my journey as a help desk agent at the beginning of the pandemic over two years ago. So much has changed over that time! But mostly, the huge shift to ākonga learning and studying from home has been a major influence on how we can support our customers. I love being a part of supporting that experience.

I grew up in the Philippines, where my family ran an internet café. Back then it was mostly teenagers coming in to play games and chat online — we grew a real sense of community there and I think that’s what sparked my interest in technology and the opportunities it opens up in people’s lives.

Really feeling like I’m making an impact and helping serve our education community, is one of the things I love the most about this job. I’ve seen what unequal access looks like and I’m so inspired to help N4L achieve their goal of ensuring fair and equal access to technology for everybody.

Online security and safety is also a major challenge for schools and it’s been really rewarding seeing the direct benefit N4L’s work has had on possible threats and how we can mitigate them together.

And in the future, I think new and improved products will really change the experience for ākonga in New Zealand. Over the next 10 years, I think the tech will become more secure and conducive to learning so that students will only have to think about one thing – learning.
