Hey Apple fans! Excited for iOS 8 coming this week?
Whether or not you’re excited about the update or you like things they way they are, you’ll probably remember last year’s big update. When Apple released their new operating system (iOS 7) 12 months ago school and business networks around the world had trouble keeping up with the enormous network load. In fact, many Internet Service Providers and large businesses mistook the reason for their massive bandwidth spikes as cyber attacks rather than the software updates they really were.
As early as tomorrow, Apple is expected to make iOS 8 available to almost all Apple iPhones and iPads (they are excluding some older models). If you have a large number of these devices and you allow them to all be updated at the same time during class hours you may notice aspects of your network, such as your wifi, performing less than satisfactorily.
In an effort to ensure your network keep performing as needed during school hours you might like to consider updating your iPhones and iPads outside of class time.
As always, we will be watching the Managed Network closely and we are confident we have the capacity to serve NZ schools during this time. However if you do experience internet issues please give us a call on 0800 LEARNING anytime between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.
