Update @ 9:20
We have discovered that in preparation for the planned outage starting at 9am this morning, the lasers that ‘power’ fibre were deactivated. This is a health and safety requirement for the field force technicians who work on re-splicing the fibre cables, however this was not communicated as activity that needed to occur prior to 9am, and thus was not part of our outage notification.
We apologise for this lapse in communication, all impacted schools are expected to be online again by 11am in line with our original planned work communication.
Original Notification
Some schools in Kaikoura and surrounding areas are currently experiencing an unplanned outage, which is causing a complete loss of internet service. N4L suspect this is related to planned maintenance that was scheduled to occur from 9am.
We are investigating this outage and hope to minimise any further impact to schools.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this unexpected downtime.
